Welcoming Dreamers: Lilly Joins Coalition for the American Dream
March 17, 2021 Posted by: Shawn O'Neail
We want all our employees – no matter their backgrounds or where they were born – to feel welcome and included at Lilly.
Our diversity results in a stronger, more innovative company and a great place to work. It drives our commitment to leading the change we want to see in the communities where we live and work.
Part of this change includes supporting the rights of immigrants, including a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers.
Dreamers are young undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States, usually by their families, as minors. They have grown up as Americans and, since 2012, received limited protections under a federal Executive Order called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
Sensible immigration reform will help ensure we have a diverse group of employees working together to drive discoveries that make life better for people around the world.
To support our commitment, we recently joined the Coalition for the American Dream, a group of more than 100 companies and trade associations that are coming together to encourage Congress to pass The Dream Act of 2021 (S. 264) and The American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 (H.R. 6). This legislation would provide Dreamers more security than DACA and a pathway to citizenship.
We look forward to engaging with the Coalition, as well as our other business trade association partners, to make this this long-overdue legislative solution a reality.
